Meet your TRC Officers!

President: Emily Tsai

Picture

Our very own Madam President is Emily Tsai, a third year physics major!

She has been climbing for about 2 years now ever since she was thrown into the sport by her roommate during a week that our rec center was holding a free week for their climbing wall. She loves the team for it’s camaraderie and the fact that the same people she gets to calmly say hi to on the way to class are the same people that scream and cheer you on while climbing on the wall.

Outside of climbing however, she is super invested in particle physics and is currently doing research with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, which is insanely cool since her dream is to become a research scientist at CERN!
Most importantly, she likes turtles and the band Queen. And she really loves the band. That’s basically the only band you’ll ever hear her listen to nowadays.

Vice President: Jeb Armstrong

Picture

Jeb Armstrong, a first year Astronomy major is our team’s good ole Vice President!

He originally was into team sports but it had to come to an end due to injuries. Not too long after, he got into climbing and he’s been crushing it hard for about 6 months now! He’s in love with the team’s community and what it can provide on and off of the climbing wall. He states that the team is like a family to him that has made getting accustomed to college a lot easier and more fun. Reaching for the stars couldn’t be easier with any other team!

Off the wall, he loves to read, cook, and play video games with his friends. His favorite books are The Old Man and the Sea and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaku and His Years of Pilgrimage. HIs favorite games are any of the Pokemon games and Animal Crossing. What more can you love from the guy!

Recreational Club Coordinator: Jarrett Rolison

Picture
When you need to coordinate an army, you get a general. When you need to coordinate a rock climbing club, you get Jarret Rolison, a third year Biochemistry major, aka our Club Coordinator!

He started climbing 3 years ago when he was on… wait for it… the rock climbing club! We love a good plotline that comes full circle. He loves the team for its atmosphere, community, and it gives us the opportunity to compete with other really strong climbers.
His love for climbing goes unmatched, however, that doesn’t mean he can’t love other things. He still loves to go camping and hiking whenever he has the chance to do so. He also likes watching the Houston Rockets whenever they play. If he’s not watching a Rockets game, he’s probably watching some other tv show. He likes to emphasize that the amount of tv he watches is very unhealthy. Some say that he went 5 months straight with a chair glued to his rear so that every time he saw a tv he could just automatically sit and watch for hours.

Treasurer: June Kim

Picture
What is that bright shining light ahead? The image is clearing. Why it is June Kim, a Chemical Engineering major, with a pile of gold getting ready to be our team's Treasurer!

June got into climbing after a friend dragged her to a local climbing gym, and ever since she couldn't keep herself away! She's been climbing for over half a year now and has achieved goals of hers like doing an unassisted pull up and crushing some pretty sick climbs. She loves the team for its ability to attract those of a variety of unique personalities. The encouraging spirit and stoke in the spirit makes it feel like a second home for her!
Outside of climbing, June keeps up with many hobbies like listening to and discovering obscure music, baking, playing video games, and watching documentaries. She's always happy to discuss topics whether it's underground Japanese hip-hop to the Great British Bake Off, all the way to her Korok collection in Breath of the Wild!

Secretary: Rahul Mathilakath

Picture

Need to keep track of some logistics? Need a ton of emails to be answered? Have no fear, Business major Rahul Mathilakath, our secretary is here!

He got into climbing nearly a year ago when his high school friends were like “you should do it,” and then he said, “okay.” Look at him now! A whole secretary of our team! He loves the team for its culture and competitiveness. Everyone pushing each other to get stronger and be the best they can be is his favorite part.

His favourite leisurely activities are fishing and watching football. He especially loves the Browns. Such a chillaxer relaxer so cool, all playing football outside of school!

Event Coordinator: Annie Thompson

Picture
A newcomer arrives! Annie Thompson, a second year Math major, is our team’s Event Coordinator!

She got into climbing due to peer pressure by some of her friends, but good thing she did because she’s been crushing it for the past 2 years! She loves the team because they’re a quality group of hardworking, kind, and environmentally conscious kids.

What if she never got into climbing? Well she would most likely just be watching a ton of movies, biking, and painting what she calls, “bad” art. I think her art is great. She’s a great addition to the team and we wouldn’t have anyone better to coordinate our events!

Public Relations: Brandon Ly

Picture
This is Brandon Ly, a second year Radio-Television-Film major, the team’s Public Relations Coordinator. (This is where you applaud because the officer introductions are finally over, but he’ll think it’s because this post is about him)

Brandon, with his brothers, one day randomly decided to try out bouldering and he got addicted to the sport and has been climbing for the past 3 years. He uses climbing as an opportunity to childishly climb on things and not get yelled at for it. He loves the team for the people. Getting into the team has helped him adapt to college a ton. He’s an awkward kid, so he’s forever thankful to have a team full of people who are all lovely to be around.
He’s barely off of the wall, but when he is, he loves photography, and making short videos. He wants to eventually merge his hobbies together and work for @nationalgeographic one day! He declares that as his ultimate dream job (aside from being a pro climber). He really doesn’t love much out of climbing so he tries to get the most out of what he does love.
